Hormone Balancing
Menopause
Changes in hormone levels can start to occur in a woman’s early 40s. This period can be a stressful and difficult time, considering all of the physical, and emotional symptoms that often accompany this transition. Menopause does not have to affect your quality of life! Using natural hormone replacement therapy, we can maintain and restore the body’s optimal balance of testosterone, estrogen and progesterone. Hotflashes, insomnia, hair/skin problems, decreased libido, osteoporosis, poor concentration, fatigue, muscle fatigue, weight gain, and incontinence are some of the symptoms that women experience during this transition.
If you are nearing menopause, please contact Dr. Greathouse about natural hormone replacement.
Andropause
As men enter their 40s they, too, may start to experience declines in their hormone levels. Low libido, fatigue, and decreased muscle mass have all been considered, part of the natural aging process. However, recent discoveries have linked these changes to decreased testosterone levels. Fortunately, this imbalance can be easily treated using natural hormone replacement therapy.
If you think you may be suffering from testosterone imbalance, please contact Dr. Greathouse.
Natural Hormone Therapy
Traditional hormone therapy has centered around the use of synthetic hormones. In fact, most physicians have never been trained on the use of bioidentical hormone replacement. Natural hormone therapy is available in several forms; oral, transdermal (patches/creams/gels), and pellets. Oral therapy is actually the least preferred due to unreliable bioavailability, increased side effects, daily dosing and first pass metabolism through the liver.
Pellet Therapy
Pellet therapy, unlike oral and transdermal forms of therapy, does not produce “roller coaster” hormone levels. Pellet therapy is the only method of hormone therapy that provides sustained hormone levels throughout the day, for up to 4-6 months. Pellets are the size of a grain of rice, and implanted under the skin. An increase in blood flow around the pellets will trigger a release in hormone, adjusting the levels as needed throughout the day. This is exactly the way the body behaves normally. In this way, the hormone levels that are closer to the optimal levels produced natural by the body will be maintained.
